World Youth Skills Day – 15th July 2026

I know the future can feel like a “huge elephant” sometimes — overwhelming and a bit scary. But remember, you don’t have to eat it all at once; just take it in small chunks.

As LinkedIn reminds us – “Today marks World Youth Skills Day, and this year’s theme, “Skills for a Shared Future,” really speaks to the heart of what matters right now. It is a reminder that the skills we need aren’t just about keeping up with AI disruption or the green transition—it’s about leading with empathy, bridging cultural divides, and building a more inclusive world together.”

As a Coach and Mentor I work with hundreds of people, young and not-so-young, and want to share some of the core “blueprints” I have picked up for navigating life as a young person:

  • Visualise where you want to be. Picture it in your mind and your brain knows where to take you.
  • Make yourself hard to replace. It’s not just about working hard; it’s about working smart, being reliable, and being someone people can trust.
  • Shift your paradigm. Instead of thinking “what’s in it for me?”, try thinking “what’s in it for us?”. When you focus on being part of the solution for your team (or your clients), you create a win-win that opens doors you can’t even imagine yet.
  • Don’t go it alone. Whether it’s an internal or external mentor or coach, having that guidance is what helps you reach the top of your game. Just like an elite athlete.
  • Seize the moment. Own every moment; enjoy every experience. You’ll have fun, or you’ll learn. Maybe both, and what can be better than that.

I’ve seen firsthand how a desire to succeed and a solid foundation can turn bleakest of beginnings into a truly blessed life. If you believe you can do it, you’re already halfway there.
